GRAND RAPIDS, Michigan – Mill Steel Co., one of the nation’s largest distributors of flat-rolled carbon steel, has decided to consolidate its Steel Structural Products Louisville steel framing manufacturing operations and related corporate office to its Ports of Indiana, Jeffersonville service center footprint. Once complete it is expected that all 40 jobs will relocate to the Ports of Indiana, Jeffersonville area. Steel Structural Products expects to complete the move by the end of March 2016.
According to a company press release, this move will greatly enhance the efficiency of its Steel Structural Products manufacturing of steel framing and accessories as well as enable it to receive substantial freight cost savings and enhanced truck availability given the established Mill Steel service center operations reside on the Ports of Indiana, Jeffersonville.
Mill Steel’s service center growth and success on the Ports of Indiana, Jeffersonville footprint has exceeded all expectations to date. Steel Structural Products’ move to Jeffersonville enables it to leverage Mill Steel’s processing services; inbound rail and barge material flow; and freight carrier network. This is expected to enhance service and delivery capabilities to distribution customers.
Mill Steel Chairman and CEO, David S. Samrick, said the consolidation of Mill Steel’s Steel Structural Products manufacturing operations not only brings efficient material procurement, manufacturing and logistics opportunities, but also brings Steel Structural Products operating and commercial personnel closer together with Mill Steel’s team.
