ATAS offers 27 cool colors

ATAS International Inc., a leading manufacturer of metal roofing, wall panels and accessories, now offers cool pigmented paint technology in 27 colors.  Increasing its efforts on the importance of energy efficient building envelope technology, most ATAS painted products are now coated with cool pigmented paint that reflects more infrared radiation, thus allowing the color to appear the same while keeping the material cool.
Infrared light represents 49 percent of the spectrum of solar radiance and largely contributes to heat build-up in buildings.  According to Energy Star, Americans spend about $40 billion annually to air condition buildings — one-sixth of all electricity generated in this country.  Roofs that are highly reflective and highly emissive, such as prepainted metal with cool pigmented colors, can significantly reduce the amount of heat transferred into the building. For every 1 percent increment in roof reflectance, surface temp decreases 1 degree, reducing heat gain in the building and reducing cooling cost. Light colored, more reflective roofs save up to 40 percent in cooling energy as reported by the Heat Island Group of Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory.
Homeowners installing an Energy Star qualified metal roof in 2009 and 2010 may be eligible for a tax credit worth up to 30 percent of the material cost (materials only) up to $1,500 per home.  Qualified metal roofs are determined by the amount of solar reflectance and thermal emittance, thus cool pigmented metal roofs are an excellent choice to install not only for their energy efficiency but the longevity of the material as well.  In addition, above sheathing ventilation, which creates an air space between the roof deck and metal roof panel, can be paired with a cool pigmented metal roof.  This can negate heating penalties associated with cool roofing in the north by using the air space as extra insulation in the winter months.
ATAS understands environmental responsibility and demonstrates their commitment to green building practices by offering cool pigmented painted materials with a PVDF or PVDF finish.  ATAS products may contribute to LEED credits, be rated by the CCRC and be Energy Star qualified.
