Follansbee KlassicKolors metal roofing now adorns two structures at Butler County Community College in Butler, PA, lending vibrant aesthetic appeal and long-lasting durability to the campus’ Succop Conservancy — an environmental and cultural education center for the community.

The two buildings – an existing barn and newly constructed event shelter – required a long lasting roofing material that was both visually pleasing and easy to install. Follansbee KlassicKolors in Charleston Green offered the ideal solution.

“We specified Follansbee metal roofing for its longevity, ease of installation and appearance,” explains Nancy Lawry, director, Succop Conservancy at Butler County Community College. “Equally important was the ability to see the interior structure of the rafters. The steel roof was able to be installed over panels placed on the exterior of the Barn roof.”

“KlassicKolors combines durability with high-end aesthetics, making it a superior metal roofing choice for a variety of applications,” says Edward Thomas, Follansbee vice president and general manager. “Here, the muted shade of green creates a classic look that blends well with the surrounding wooded landscape. We were happy to provide our materials to Butler County Community College for this project.”

A combined total of 9,790 square feet of KlassicKolors was used to roof the two structures.

KlassicKolors is a pre-painted Terne II zinc/tin coated roofing sheet offered in an extensive palette of designer colors. Its base sheet is coated with Follansbee’s patented ZT (zinc/tin) alloy and then painted with solar reflective paint coatings from Valspar. The ZT alloy provides enhanced durability and extends the life of the metal for many years, even if the painted surface is breached. KlassicKolors is available in a selection of hues, ranging from deep, rich tones of red, blue, green, gray to earth tones of beige, tans and browns. These colors were chosen to maintain the oxide hues that have characterized Terne roofs since colonial times. Custom formulated colors are also available. A superior, time-tested roofing metal, KlassicKolors carries a warranty of 30 years.

Construction on the Event Shelter was completed in summer 2008, while construction on the Barn was completed in winter 2009. Troy Jay Construction served as the installer for the Event Shelter. Bob Sloan served as contractor for the Barn. Butler County Community College Education Fund is the owner.

“It was a pleasure to work with Follansbee,” continues Lawry. “We are grateful for their generosity in supporting these projects and hope to work with them again in the future.”

As a peaceful, comfortable atmosphere that lends itself to business meetings, retreats, classes, weddings, receptions and art exhibits, The Succop Conservancy offers 50 picturesque acres including a house built in the 1830s and an outdoor reception area for weddings and gatherings. Two ponds, an herb garden and walking trails complete this scenic ceremony and reception site.

Butler County Community College is dedicated to providing affordable and accessible education, training and cultural enrichment opportunities responsive to the needs of the community. The College is committed to fostering a supportive environment that values integrity, diversity and excellence.
