Palatine, IL, Nov. 26, 2012 – DLR Group, Chicago, took top honors, the Don Erickson Presidential Award, at the Association of Licensed Architects 14th Annual Design Awards, which recently recognized projects in six states for design and construction achievement.  A total of 32 presidential, gold, silver, and merit awards were presented in categories that included: commercial, institutional, residential, renovation, religious and interior.

Steve Cavanaugh, ALA, designed DLR Group’s winning entry, Patterson Technology Center in Effingham, Ill., a 98,000 square foot office building for a healthcare equipment and software company. It features a unique, ecologically restorative landscaping concept and a high-performance rain screen façade. Highlights of the winning building design included the earth tone pattern, which enables its integration into the natural prairie and birch forest surroundings, and the use of light on the interior and to emphasize the spectacular exterior views. The center is currently under review by the U.S. Green Building Council and is tracking for a LEED Silver certification. The project also took a Silver Award in the Commercial category.
