DeWalt names top finish carpenter

Stan Foster, a Paxton, Ill., a 20-year veteran carpenter who specializes in custom stairways, has won DeWalt’s Finish Carpenter competition.
DeWalt,  manufacturer of industrial power tools, invited carpenters across the country to enter projects on-line. The public voted for their choices from among a final pool of 17 projects.
Foster received the most online votes for his project and has been named the overall winner of the Top 17 contest.
More than 150 finish carpenters nationwide entered the contest as a way to showcase their precision, craftsmanship and woodworking skills.  Participants submitted a plan to build a project in one of three categories: mantles, built-in cabinets or custom stairs.  Entrants also had to submit three images of prior work in their chosen category.  A panel of DeWalt judges selected the Top 17, each of whom received a tool package of new DeWalt woodworking tools, including  10” sliding miter saw (DW717), heavy-duty one-gallon trim compressor (D55140), 15 gauge finish nailer (D51276K), 16 gauge finish nailer (D51257K), heavy-duty 6∏” TrackSaw kit, and two (2) 10” precision trim blades.
During the second phase of the contest, the final 17 used the  tool package to complete their projects and posted their progress online.
Foster built a dual stairway for his Top 17 finish carpentry project.  Each section of stairway turns 90 degrees and has curved handrails that connect the two stairways as they begin at the basement level and extend to the second level of the building.  As the winner of the Top 17 contest, Foster will receive more than $4,000 in DeWalt tools and accessories, the DeWalt Race Experience and a DeWalt Gear Prize Pack.
Foster is the owner and operator of Stan’s Stair Shop in Paxton, Ill.  When he is not working, Foster enjoys flying helicopters and spending time with his wife Barbara, son Jeff and daughter Jennifer.
