Popular demo areas return to METALCON

Planning to attend METALCON next week in Chicago? This year’s demonstration areas are full of informational how-to’s and new product technologies.

The Metal Construction Association will have a mock roof and attic assembly to demonstrate MCA manufacturer member’s energy efficient products compared to a conventional 0.10 solar reflectance asphalt shingle roof, along with a mock up of MCA’s phase change research developed at Oak Ridge National Laboratory. Detailed illustrations of the DOD demonstration project at Goodfellow Air Force Base in Texas featuring an integrated retrofit metal roof assembly will also be featured. Key examples of MCA’s extensive technical and case history library will be on hand as well and representatives from the Metal Construction Association will be available to answer questions.

The popular MCA Demos provide insight on roofing and tool technologies, with discussions and demonstrations of the latest techniques and trends.

Visit the METALCON website for the schedule of commercial roof, residential roof and tool demonstrations.

In addition to one-hour audience demonstrations each day, each of the three mock-up areas will be open for attendees to walk through during exhibit hall hours. Participants can ask questions, work with tools, and have one-on-one discussions. This “up close and personal” approach is designed to give more information to take back and use in the field.

Contractors and manufacturers join forces to demonstrate techniques for insulated metal panels (IMPs) in different roof and wall applications at METALCON International. Sponsored by the Metal Building Contractors and Erectors Association and Metal Buildings Institute, the series of demos bring a new dimension to METALCON and show one of the benefits of IMPs – the ease of installation.

Industry experts will conduct a window installation to show how panels and window systems are installed and use a video to show panel handling methods using vacuum lift equipment. The demos and wall panel installation will be conducted by Ken Buchinger, vice president of business development and research & development for MCA-member company MBCI, Houston, Texas, and Steve Webster, president of Dutton & Garfield, Inc, a design/build contractor in Hampstead, N.H.

The demos will be held in the MBCEA demo area, booth #2109.  On Tuesday and Wednesday, demos times are from 1:30 to 2:15 p.m., and from 3:30 to 4:15 p.m.  On Thursday, the demo runs from 10:30 to 11:15 a.m.

IMP market and field techniques will also be discussed by Buchinger and Webster in a comprehensive session on Wednesday morning, October 10. Titled “Capture Your Part of the Growing Insulated Metal Panel Market with the Right Applications, Products and Techniques,” the 3-hour session also is sponsored by the Metal Building Institute.
