Performance up; labor down
ACH Foam Technologies  —

ACH Foam Technologies says its SecureThermComposite Roof Insulation eliminates the need for cover boards in roof applications. SecureTherm, a high performance, light weight and water resistant expanded polystyrene (EPS) roof insulation, has factory-applied durable fiberglass facer to meet UL Class A requirements.

“SecureTherm offers stable R-values with the added benefit of lower installation costs,” said Frank Kiesecker, sales/ marketing senior vice president.

Installing 160,000 square feet of SecureTherm on a metal roof deck of a  building in Dinuba, Calif., as part of an increase in roof insulation specification from R-30 to R-38 to boost energy efficiency, the roofing contractor saved significantly in labor costs.

According to Jim Nelson of Peters Roofing, the change from R-30 to the specified R-38 made polyisocyanurate too expensive for the project. “We chose SecureTherm because it met the R-38 specification, and brought the project’s budget back on track,” he said. “The two layer system consisting of 8 inch thick Type I EPS and a 1 inch thick Type IX SecureTherm cap was mechanically fastened to a metal roof deck beneath a PVC membrane.”

According to Nelson, using SecureTherm also saved installation labor by eliminating the need for a cover board that is used in many membrane applications. This saved them labor time and cost because there is less material handling involved.
