EPS expands in two markets, positions company for growth
EPS has expanded in two key areas. One expansion is aimed at the East Coast and the other, focused on the post-frame program, focuses on southwest Iowa and Nebraska.
EPS says the expansions allow it to continue to provide dealers with strong products and services and put dealers in a position to offer a complete post-frame line along with the SIPs building products. The company is continuing efforts to assist dealers in producing buildings that are Energy Star and Green Built certified. Dealers can sell agricultural buildings along with a product mix of insulated shops, storage buildings, residential and commercial buildings.
Among programs EPS plans to offer in coming months are: 9’ oc post frame with IBC snow loads and 90 mph wind loads with unbalanced snow loads; 20’ and taller post-frame and solid core designs to assist in designs for taller storage buildings; 3D drawing program to show elevations and floor plans that dealers can draw without prior expertise in drawing software.
Other programs include: new ladder frame and stick built pricing option to compete on many different siding and roofing materials; choice of 28 and 29-gauge roll formed siding and roofing steel; window options that can help earn Energy Star qualifications; on-staff energy consultant; co-op marketing/advertising program.
Deckmaster bracket system scores high on uplift tests
ALPINE, Utah — Fasteners are hidden but the strength of Grabber’s Deckmaster Hidden Bracket System isn’t, according to results of independent testing done by Veka Inc. Deckmaster showed highest uplift resistance in use with VekaDeck deck boards.

Deckmaster achieved the highest uplift resistance, surpassing ICC criteria for deck board span ratings and guardrail systems. Information is available at www.grabberman.com
Scottsdale library designed with new Vari-Cool coatings
PITTSBURGH – The Appaloosa Branch Library, Scottsdale, Ariz., is the first building constructed with color-shifting Duranar VARI-Cool coatings by PPG Industries.
Duranar VARI-Cool coatings contain pearlescent pigments that reflect the sun’s energy using ULTRA-Cool infrared-reflective coatings technology by PPG. In addition to helping buildings to stay cooler, the coatings change color according to viewing angle and how light refracts across their surface. On the Appaloosa Branch Library, the appearance of the coating changes from dark green to silver to mauve. In a static state, the coating projects a light gray-green tint that matches plants, sand and the surrounding desert landscape.
Due in part to Duranar VARI-Cool coatings, the building is expected to use 32 percent less energy than comparably sized libraries. It has qualified for LEED Gold certification by the U.S. Green Building Council. Jeremy Jones, AIA, LEED AP, a principal in DWL Architects & Planners, Inc., Phoenix, was the lead architect. The 21,000 square-foot library is owned by the city of Scottsdale.
Duranar VARI-Cool coatings are available in 17 pre-formulated standard tints.
USG’s Fortacrete panel earns dual evaluation, certification
United States Gypsum Co. says it’s the first to have products assessed through the new Dual Evaluation and Certification Program receiving both the ICC-ES Mark for code compliance and the UL Mark for safety. The news was announced by ICC Evaluation Service, Inc (ICC-ES) and Underwriters Laboratories (UL).
The dual evaluation and certification program, launched in December 2009, helps building manufacturers show compliance with both standards and codes, through one point of contact.
Fortacrete Structural Panels were tested and certified to UL safety standards and evaluated to meet ICC-ES acceptance criteria. The complying products will be posted in UL’s Online Certifications Directory and Code Correlation Database along with ICC-ES’s online directory of evaluation reports and will be embedded in ICC’s e-Codes Premium.
