When is a metal building a pimple?

In Ingelside on the Bay, Texas, along Corpus Christi Bay, residents are questioning the issue: when is a metal building a pimple?

According to an article on aransaspassprogress.com, an increasing number of large metal buildings in residential areas are popping up and arousing controversy. How they are being defined prior to construction and how they fall in line with existing setback ordinances are issues coming into play.

The Aransas Pass Progress website reported that at a recent city council meeting, three citizens addressed their concerns during a public forum.

While size was a major issue, one metal building owner questioned why metal was being targeted.  “My question is, is it because it’s metal? Everybody keeps saying metal buildings,” he said. “If that was a wood-frame construction the exact same size, would there be as much squalling about it? I asked this recently when another building was built, and nobody really gave me much of an answer. If it’s metal versus stick frame construction (issue), that’s kind of iffy.”

What was universal among the dissenters was the sentiment that a big metal building, sometimes defined as a garage  prior to construction but actually “as big as an airplane hangar” doesn’t fit well in residential areas of their community and is, well, like a pimple. As one resident described it: “Imagine this big red pimple on your forehead. You’ll eventually forget to do that or to think about that when you look in the mirror, but this pimple that was built over there on that corner is going to be there forever.”

The local council promised to address the issue further at its April meeting.
