From the Herald-Star of Steubenville, Ohio, January 13, 2012

Unless a new buyer can be found, 36 workers at Follansbee Steel, including its Sheet Metal Specialty Divisions, could be out of a job soon.

Follansbee Steel, owned by the Steubenville-based Louis Berkman Co., told workers of the decision Thursday, January 12.

Follansbee SteelIn a brief statement issued several hours later, the company blamed the closing on what it referred to as “sustained unfavorable business conditions.”

“It was with much regret that the announcement was made today that Follansbee Steel, and the Sheet Metal Specialty Divisions will permanently close due to sustained unfavorable business conditions,” they said. “The closure will affect a total of 36 workers. Both companies will be working closely with our customers to minimize the effect of the closure.”
