Maze Nails again highlighted on ‘Made in America’ news segment

The “Made in America” movement is gaining steam in the building world and Maze Nails is part of that movement. The Illinois company has been prominently featured on the ongoing ABC Diane Sawyer Made in America Series on ABC News, including another segment Tuesday night.

About 90 percent of all nails are currently made in China, the report noted, and while Maze Nails are $5 more per box, their construction of high-carbon steel and double-coated zinc makes them stronger, rust proof and they jam less in the nail gun for greater productivity.

The concept of the Made in America challenge is that if contractors use just 5 percent more American products, it will add 5 percent to the U.S. job market (or approximately 220,000 jobs).

Maze said it could add 25 jobs to its workforce if its sales doubled.

After visiting a builder who is using all American-made products in the construction of a house in Bozeman, Montana, ABC visited the Maze Nails factory in Peru, Illinois. Maze is one of the last makers of nails in the U.S., according to Maze president Roelif Loveland.

While a U.S.-made home can be more expensive, the Bozeman home is running only about 1-2 percent more, with some items costing less to offset those that cost more.

ABC News offers a list of U.S. construction products and where they can be found. The list currently represents 33 states.
