Leading building products manufacturer USG Corporation plans to donate its products to ABC-TV’s “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition.” As a preferred drywall and flooring underlayment vendor, USG is going to contribute building materials for a dozen episodes throughout the program’s eighth season.

“This series is devoted to rebuilding the homes of families at precisely the time they need a renewal of hope, a concept that USG is honored to support,” said Linda McGovern, director of marketing, USG. “We are proud to help lift the weight off the backs of the generous building crews and volunteers by providing USG’s newest lightweight innovations.”

USG plans to donate the following products to the “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” renovations:

• Sheetrock Brand UltraLight Panels

• Durock brand cement board Next Gen

• Sheetrock paper-faced metal corner bead

• Sheetrock Mold Tough gypsum panels

• Sheetrock all purpose joint compound

• Sheetrock joint tape

In its inaugural project, which aired November 14, USG donated building materials for the reconstruction of the Lighthouse Preschool in Nashville, Tenn., which was demolished by floods in May 2010. Products are also going to be donated to rebuild the homes of worthy families in Pensacola, Fla.; Savannah, Ga.; Lubbock, Texas; Augusta, Ga.; and Austin, Texas. The next episode airs Sunday, December 12.

Each episode of “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” features a family that has faced a recent or ongoing hardship, such as a natural disaster or life-threatening illness. Through coordination with local construction contractors, various companies in the building trade, along with the help of community volunteers, “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” provides a new home for a family in a need or to a dilapidated school. The comprehensive one-week makeover, which includes interior work, exterior work and landscaping, is performed over a seven-day period while the family is away on a program-sponsored vacation.

“Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” airs on Sundays at 8 p.m. ET/7 p.m. CT on ABC.
