Annual Ohio meeting focuses on “Modern Frame Building”
All were pleased with the program and turnout for this year’s Buckeye Frame Building Association’s annual meeting at the Dutch Heritage in Bellville, Ohio. The focus for this year’s program was “Modern Frame Building from the Ground Up.”
Attendee numbers were up as folks came from all parts to get back to the basics of frame building. Attendees heard information and discussion on foundations and posts, lumber grading, the selection and installation of fasteners and current metal quality standards. As an added bonus, NFBA’s chair Larry Edema brought the group up to speed on what’s going on with the National.
The BFBA annual meeting also featured several opportunities between sessions for attendees to speak with the chapter’s vendors one-on-one about products and services related to the industry.
Each year at its annual meeting, BFBA recognizes some of the best state post-frame projects with the presentation of the Buckeye Building Awards. Plyco’s Dennis Nolting sponsored the awards.
Winners were:
▶ Livestock Facility: Hochstetler Buildings, Select Sires calf campus project in Unionville Center, Ohio.
▶ Workshop Facility: 64 Metals for a project designed for Brian Couchene of Newark, Ohio.
▶ Suburban Garage: Hochstetler Buildings built for Kerri Kammerer of Dublin, Ohio.
▶ Commercial Buildings (under 5,000 square feet): WC Buildings for the Dari Twist in Dresden, Ohio.
▶ Commercial Buildings (more than 5,000 square feet): Eversole Builders with the BSS Waste facility project in Lancaster, Ohio.
▶ Judge’s Choice Award: Milla Construction Systems for the new Bus Garage for the Minerva Local School District in Minerva, Ohio.
The Buckeye Frame Building Association encourages anyone interested in the frame building industry to join them at next year’s meeting in January. The format for next year’s meeting will include sessions on the fundamentals of post-frame construction. If an outstanding post-frame building project in Ohio catches your eye this year, you could nominate it for a Buckeye Building Award.
